Collaborazioni

Renata Solimini and Mark Rossmiller (Moan Lisa)

2015 - 2017

[English]: Renata Solimini and Moan Lisa met through the mail art network in 2014. Moan Lisa has been an active member of the mail art network since 2011, coming at it from a project called "Mail Art 365", a project which aimed to produce a piece of outgoing mail art each day for a year. In 2014, Renata Solimini joined IUOMA (International Union of Mail Artists) network and started to participate in numerous international mail art calls and to exchange mail art with dedicated artists; this is how the two artists were introduced to each other, through a call for art that Moan put out with the subject of “Madonna with Child”. In October 2015, Renata and Moan began a duo collaboration with “fish” as a theme was born, initially inspired by a solo show of Renata’s in Rome held in September 2015.
The Fish symbology inspired the two artists to explore the aquatic world as the origin of human life. In general, they need also to explore the dualistic gist of reality, represented by the continuous dancing of black and white energies, symbolized by the complementarity of digital and analog creations. This complementarity extends recursively within the artworks themselves. Both within the digital works, where Renata’s past works are manifest in the texturing of layers made by Moan Lisa through the digital collage process, as well as in the analog creations where Moan’s basic asemic fish shapes act as a skeleton to Renata’s analog overlay of geometric shapes and colors.
The process by which the digital works are created is that first Moan takes a photograph, usually found on the web, then overlays textures taken from both Renata’s past imagery which includes fish, women, and more geometric and abstract works, and also occasionally included are works by Maria Morisot (alias of Moan Lisa), including both asemic writing and poetry. These layers are painted on the top of the original image and then Moan adds extra colors and textures as a slight addition to the otherwise finished piece. The analog works start with asemic writing (usually shaped roughly as a fish) on paper, written out with pen or marker by Moan Lisa in the resemblance of a fishbone, Renata adds to this her own embellishments and colors using markers, oil, acrylic, and ink.
Their duo works (made with four hands) have consisted of 3 different kinds of artworks: analog art (collaborative paintings on canvas using oil, acrylic, collage and markers); digital art with handmade interventions (digital collage by Moan Lisa printed on canvas with subsequent painted or drawn interventions by Renata); digital art using photos of paintings made by Renata then digitally modified by Moan Lisa and then printed on canvas. The two artists worked also on asemic writing and collaborative poetry.
Their collaborative artworks were shown in USA, in Des Moines and Iowa City (Iowa), Grand Rapids (Michigan), Lincoln (Nebraska) and in Italy (Rome, Bomarzo) in 2016-2017.

OTHER PROJECTS

November-December 2016

Prismatic Eye or Occhio Prismatico in Italian was a collaborative project between Moan Lisa & Renata Solimini mainly about the theme of the eye. Collaborative works concern art (such as paintings, either solo or duo, and digital collage) and poetry.
